It's good to use spruce or pine wood, as these aren't too hard but aren't too soft either. If the wood is too hard, the axe won't stick, too soft and the target will ruin. Vertical grain wood aligns with where the blade lands and this will help it stay secure after striking the board.

Ideally the wood you use should be not too soft and not too hard. Softer wood allows for the axe to stick when you throw it, but too soft and your target will degrade quickly. Pine and spruce are both good options. Look for wood that is free of dark spots and knots, especially towards the center of your target.

Axe throwing is not like bowling or golf: you get a lot more repetitions throwing than in the previously mentioned sports. If you are new to the sport, start off looking for an axe that weighs in at about 1.25 lbs to about 2.25 lbs.

How Much Time Do You Need for Axe Throwing? We recommend at least an hour in order to fully enjoy the experience and give everyone a chance to throw and have a good time. We offer 1 hour and 2-hour sessions and price the rates per person.
