One of our major traditions is hosting an annual holiday party each year in December. I made TONS of food and we invite all of our friends and family over to spend time together and relax. I used to make mini pecan pies but they were a lot of work. Pecan Pie Cresent Rolls - One of the Best Pecan Pie Recipes (1)

Even making an easy pecan pie, along with some of my more traditional favorites, just doesn’t make much sense for our party Instead, I can translate the flavors into a party perfect dish like Pecan Pie Crescent Rolls.

Last week, I was with our Girl Scout troop at the food pantry and talking with some of the other moms while the girls sorted food. The discussion turned to Thanksgiving and other holiday meals and we were all listing our favorite dishes.

During that conversation, it stuck me how much of a traditionalist I have become, especially since having children. All of the dishes that topped my list of holiday favorites were “traditional” items like roasted turkey, green bean casserole and pecan pie.

And the activities I enjoy most and look forward to the most each year always involve family and are ones that we have done since I was a child like decorating the tree while listening to music or making loads of sweets throughout the month of December.

While I am totally a traditionalist in so many ways, a lot of my traditional foods aren’t great for entertaining. These Pecan Pie Crescent Rolls are absolutely perfect for our party and would also be great as a substitute to the traditional pecan pie. I’m terrible at making pie crust and always worry about how to make a pecan pie correctly.

As we prepare for Thanksgiving this Thursday quickly followed by the rest of the holiday season, I am definitely taking time to reflect on all of the things we have done over the year and take the time to really enjoy the company of my family.

I know my memories of all of us gathered around the table for a meal or hanging on the couch after we’ve all eaten the delicious food are what this time of year is really about. Traditions are so important and, as my children get older, I definitely try to help them understand why we do each little thing that we do so that they will hopefully hold onto some of the same traditions when they are older.

Just the smell of these pecan pie crescent rollstakes me back to when I was a young child and my grandparents would come over super early on Christmas morning. My grandfather would play jingle bells on our doorbell to wake everyone up.

Even though I’d probably been awake for hours in anticipation of Santa, I had to pretend to be asleep until my grandmother came in a woke me up. While my dad doesn’t play jingle bells on the doorbell, my mom always wakes my kids up on Christmas morning just as my grandmother did for me.
